Patriot Day is September 11 of each year in memory of the 2,993 people killed in the 9/11 attacks.
The bill to make 9/11 a holiday was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives on October 25, 2001. The bill was introduced by Vito Fossella with 22 cosponsors (11 from each of the two main political parties). It passed 407-0. The Senate passed the bill on November 30, 2001 unanimously.
Public Law No. 107-89 was signed by President George W. Bush on December 18, 2001 creating a national day of remembrance. |
